  1. Why does college not have a continuation rule? Certainly there are times where the NBA rule takes it too far, but how is it not a better game if that counts as 2 for TJD? The rule as is rewards you for fouling. How about penalizing guys for doing that?
  2. It will be interesting to see what comes of that. On most teams, I would trust that the coach knows his guy and said the right thing to get the best out of him. On a team that had 2 guys leave mid-year, who knows?
  3. JHS has made that cut several times.
  4. Why do college teams never go 2 for 1 at the end? Such a no brainer for Illinois to do that there.
  5. Yup. That's weak. A T should be a last resort because you're worried there might be a fight. That wasn't what we just saw.
  6. I read the cylinder rule to say that if I, as an offensive player, hit you, when you are in my cylinder, the foul is on you. That doesn't mean that you can't be in my cylinder, just that any contact that happens when you are is on you. I don't see the kind of contact here that would make this a foul.
  7. Obviously we don't know, but think about that though. What coach Rosemond said was so bad that it should change the outcome of that game that thousands of people paid money to see, tens of thousands more watched on tv and 20 some kids spent their lives preparing for. But, coach said a bad word, so the other team wins? Seems like technical fouls should be used to make sure the teams don't get into a fight and to make sure the refs don't get abused on the sideline. It seems pretty far fetched to think either of those things were happening here.
  8. Part d deals with that: d A player may have a hand legally in contact with the ball, when this contact continues after the ball enters the cylinder or when, during such action, the player touches or grabs the basket
  9. In fact it makes reference to basket interference leading to 2 points, so clearly can be called on the defensive team.
  10. I don't see the rule as saying that. Goaltending requires the ball to be moving down, but basket interference, which can be called on the defensive team, does not. "Basket interference occurs when a player:... touches the ball while any part of it is within the cylinder that has the ring as its lower base"
  11. Hummel is pretty mild in his criticism of officials and I think it's safe to say he does not have a pro-IU bias - off the top of my head, I can think of him questioning a number of calls last night: the lack of a travel, the T on Woodson, the hack on Race that led to a turnover, a missed out of bounds call in the 1st, body contact as TJD went up; the only one he mentioned in our favor was the goal-tend call.
  12. I thought the refs were markedly better after the techs. Don't think that's a coincidence.
  13. I gotta say, I'm loving the refusing the hand up from the other team. I hope they say nice things in the handshake line, but not before then.
  14. Maybe the refs will realize we're the home team, and we will get some of that cooking they served up for NU in the first half.
  15. I'm not saying he won't make it there eventually, he obviously has a lot of skill, but if you're an NBA team, particularly one picking outside of the lottery, so presumably in a good spot to make the play-offs, what do you want JHS doing? The only thing I see him do at an elite level is create jump shots for himself, and while he's great and getting them, he only college okay at making them. If I'm an NBA team trying to make a playoff run, I do not want to spend a possession for JHS to take a mid-range jump shot. A lot can change in a year, but I just don't see why he is a one-and-done guy. He's not NBA ready and he doesn't have the speed and jumping ability that makes NBA teams over look lack of readiness and take him anyway. I'll certainly concede that people who make mock drafts spend more time on these things than I do, but I just don't see it.
  16. I'm more and more a believer that TJD will be a rotation player in the NBA a year from now and that JHS will not be.
  17. That's the kind of road win you get when have team that can make a March run. Lot of things we could have done better, but just enough that we did right.
  18. This is the game where if we find a way to win, I will officially stop sweating the last 5 minutes of every game. Despite the results of the last 10 games, I still think we're going to blow it every time. If we can get this one, I will finally trust us on a day-in and day-out basis.
  19. Really feels like a game we can steal if we play a little more disciplined on both ends.
  20. Not the time for an in-depth discussion, but I just don't see how JHS is in the NBA next year. The one thing he does at an elite level is create jump shots for himself, but he doesn't hit them enough to make it worth while.
  21. Bates needs to understand that he is a 3 and D guy. If he's doing something other than those two things, he's doing something wrong. Maybe next year he will do more, but not this year.
  22. Also thought I heard that. I'm in favor of more minutes for Malik, but Race still has a very important role to play on this team... and even if he didn't, I would never boo one of our guys. A coach in extreme situations, but never a player.
  23. I saw Kopp complaining to the refs on that play, but didn't understand it: they had already called a foul. It's clear now he saw it, too. I can't believe they didn't go to the monitor to eject him after Kopp told them about it.
  24. Yeah, Rutgers was doing it wrong. Token pressure to take time off the shot clock has been very effective against us. But, full on pressure hasn't been (with one exception I can think of).
