Yes, the defense played well enough but we weren’t a threat to those opponents because of our offense (the opposite of years past teams) I have never been so excited about an IU football season and it started going down the drain 2 minutes into the Iowa game (regardless of how well our D played). The 2 previous years were fun to watch and great by IU standards Let’s hope we see improvement next year. QB, RB, WR and OL are all are concerns. Hopefully some or all of those weaknesses are addressed as players recover from injuries, younger players get a chance and we bring in transfers/recruits.

Riley is going to rake in 4 and 5 star west coast recruits, get his teams highly ranked by beating overrated ND most years and avoid the SEC meat grinder. Great move on his part.

I agree and that’s exactly what I said. Didn’t have a snowballs chance against IA, PSU, UM and should have split with MSU and UC (both of whom we could have beaten).

Ha, there is a bit of room in the continuum between you sarcastically implying the fans expected IU to beat all 6 of those ranked teams and the total no-show we endured this year. I think having a snowballs chance (ie have somewhat of a chance in the second half) in hell against 2 of Iowa, UM, PSU and a split with MSU/UC (both of which we could have beaten) was a reasonable expectation. We have at least sometimes been in games against teams like OSU, even with a QB like Zander, but this year we were not a remote threat to IA, UM, PSU, OSU. I’m not saying we should have beaten any of them but we were a zero threat.

Thanks for the preview. I’ll be interested to see how our ball pressure effects their 3 point shooting. Would love to see X get into their grills without getting into foul trouble. Their lack of foot speed was also mentioned which might play into KL’s strength. If we win there will probably be posts about Woody figuring out their zone (as opposed to Crean) but your preview makes it clear this is an entirely different type of Cuse team with a much different skill set. They have already given up 89 or more points to 3 opponents which is not typical old-school Syracuse.

Agree and Agree. That being said I do think “media mojo” can impact/influence some of the POY awards.

If Duke and the Zags stay in the top 5 Banchero and Holmgren will both be top 5 player of the year candidates on this list. In K’s last season Duke will get so much ESPN airtime that we will know the names of their ball boys and student managers by the end of the year and will endlessly hear Banchero’s name.

It was a pretty interesting game. Normally don’t think of mid-major teams as being overly athletic but they had a couple of bouncy guys that really attacked the rim. TJD was also in attack mode as was X who showed he is going to be able to handle physical BT play. They went on a run when Woody subbed all 5 guys. I’m guessing/hoping that he doesn’t sub all five guys at once much, if ever, once we wade into BT season. We might have some depth but it’s not like we have 10-starter type depth. I’d rather see Bates or Geronimo come in for Kopp/Stewart or KL for X, etc rather than see a wholesale 5 man swap.
