  1. That’s good to hear. I hate to pile on Archie again but one of his biggest weaknesses was his inability to lockdown Finland.
  2. He deserves more minutes. Plays good D, does the “little things”, hustles and his stroke is looking good.
  3. Just the fact that I’m watching guys bust their butts this year, vs the sleep walking years we just endured, makes me excited for the season.
  4. I think a combo of Bates and Geronimo are going to eat up a lot of Kopp minutes
  5. Even though I thought the “4 year to learn” pack line was absolutely amazing…..I prefer the intensity of our defensive effort this year. Good to see.
  6. He is not hitting shots or even doing “glue guy” things.
  7. Over/under on how many more games Kopp starts? Wish him the best, and he has hit shots in the past, but so far this season………..
  8. The perimeter, and poor shooting, has been a multi-year weakness. Kopp and Stewart were primarily brought in to hit shots from the perimeter. Hopefully they both get on track tonight. Would really help open up the floor/offense. They need to hit some shots.
  9. The Big Ten is down 0-4 vs the Big East so far. Not a great start/look.
  10. I get what you are saying but we have 13 guys and should Woody give KL more playing time so he doesn’t get pissed? I vote no. If KL earns 10/20/30 minutes a game I say congratulations but, if not, he should not be taking minutes from other guys just because he was highly rated and is possibly not happy. He (and everyone) should have to earn their minutes.
  11. I agree in that Woody and Archie, two coaches that we assume are very different leaders, have seen Galloway, Leal and KL play and both coaching staffs have come to the exact same conclusion as to whom should get more minutes. Not saying it can’t or won’t change but at this point, for whatever reason, some have earned more minutes than others.
  12. Not shocked to read this. Maybe we will pick him up in the portal in a year or two.
  13. The schedule has been historically brutal. That being said with 19 returning starters (yes, I realize we lost Penix, Mullin etc) people would be much more positive if we had split with Cincinnati and MSU (both of which could have beaten), beat MD and at least had been remotely competitive with 2 out of 3 of IA, PSU and OSU. EDIT: Just looked at Phil Steele, who lists the number of returning starters for every D1 team, and he had IU at 17 returning starters (not 19) with 8 on offense and 9 on defense.
  14. They have mentioned getting in better shape, working on their shots, etc.
  15. Pre-season CBS Sports had EMU 315th and NIU 217th so we might see a competitive step-up next game.
  16. It’s a low bar but I’ll take a 6 point win against EMU, in a coaches debut, over a 21 point loss to ISU
  17. Three point shooting last night was obviously a negative but I’m confident that Stewart and Kopp, both of whom have done it before, will help us during the season.Hopefully someone else (Bates, Leal ?) will also step up. After reading about free-flowing offense, and players having more confidence, some may have been overly optimistic thinking 5 or 6, average at best perimeter shooters last year, would become a threat this year. We will still make perimeter progress if Stewart, Kopp and 1-2 more guys step up. PS..Let’s also keep in mind that half the team is new and this was their first together game in front of a crowd. Thankfully we got the W (and not a tourney threatening “bad loss”) and the staff now has plenty of teaching moments.
  18. Not that it matters in regards to the success of the season but even though it was EMU I thought the roof would blow off the place when the introductions and tip-off took place. Woody, first game in a long time with fans, new season etc etc
  19. Ha…That would mythically become the best backcourt in basketball history.
  20. Back in the day 16% might have been my batting average at the Bluebird but I was still happy when it worked out.
