  1. 3 killed in illegal Chicago drag racing shootings The politicians say nothing can be done. Especially the final quote: “You cannot ask (police) to come to an event where there are literally 200 people in cars with weapons.” Uh, I think if there are 200 people with weapons breaking the law and you know when and where they are, that's exactly where the police should be. 2. Someone on the search team for hiring Knight said during his interview, everyone in the room quickly knew they were listening to the new IU basketball coach, not just a coaching candidate. Knight was in charge from the moment he stepped on campus, even before he was hired.
  3. From The Daily Hoosier. "He attacks the rim with bad intentions." Oh, yeah. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/iu-basketball-recruiting-2024-top-50-guard-rakease-passmore-to-take-indiana-official-visit/
  4. Old Ironsides. She went 33-0 in sea battles. Better than the 32-0 1976 NCAA championship team. On this day in history, Oct. 21, 1797, legendary warship USS Constitution launched in Boston https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/this-day-history-oct-21-1797-legendary-warship-uss-constitution-launched-boston
  5. If you only walk 9 yards, do you really need a fitness tracker?
  6. Michigan wolverine vs Wisconsin badger: The wolverine's species name is Gulo gulo, from the Latin word meaning "glutton." Primarily a scavenger, the wolverine has a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion to its size, with the documented ability to kill prey many times larger than itself. The American badger's species name is Taxidea taxus, derived from the Proto-Indo-European word tek, "to construct" - so the badger would have been named after its digging of setts (tunnels). Although smaller in size than the wolverine, the badger is more agile in digging, swimming, and climbing. Thus, it is well equipped for hunting underground, above ground, on trees, and in water.
  7. Thom Maker, Milwaukee Bucks. What a waste that pick was. They needed a reliable 10 points 6 rebounds guy. Not hard to find. Instead, they took a guy who was 3% chance of All-Star,. 97% bust.
  8. 15 US generals and admirals now employed by Saudi Arabia since 2016. Along with 500 military personnel. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11328423/Foreign-governments-reportedly-hire-500-retired-DOD-personnel-2015.html
  9. I had to Google "honey dipper" (A worker who collects household sewage from sewage tanks.) Quick story: I hired a guy to clean out a 50-year-old kitchen grease pit that had been unused for decades. He had quoted me $100. When he arrived in his truck, I went out, thanked him for coming, and shook his hand. Him (astonished): "You're the first person to shake my hand in 10 years. No one does that. Tell you what, you made my day, so this one's free. I'll charge the next customer double." A $100 handshake, just for showing someone a little respect.
  10. The Wisconsin volleyball staff (the team is defending national champions) has each player take personality tests, so the coaches know best how to communicate, interact, and teach the players. Not that the coaches bend to the players. Everyone knows who is in charge. But it's one tool, used as needed.
  11. 6'11" center Somto Cyril (2024) offered by Indiana this week. #22 player in the class. I question if he'll ever play in college, but here ya go. From Twitter: "2024 five-star Somto Cyril, a 6-11, 250-pound big man from Tennessee, has signed a scholarship with the Overtime Elite league, retaining his college eligibility."
  12. Teddy Roosevelt shot in Wisconsin in 1912, then gave an 85 minute speech as blood seeped into his white shirt. https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/this-day-history-oct-14-1912-teddy-roosevelt-shot-chest-campaign-stop

  14. I've received 3 emails from this site asking "Did this answer your question?" related to threads I started. It lists the thread, and the first reply. Not a fan. Would like to stop getting these. If I unsubscribe (it gives that option), will I still be able to receive messages from other members as before? All I want is to stop the "Did this answer your question?" emails.
  15. I've read all of this author's Powder Mage books over the years. This book is the first in a new Glass Immortals series. Perhaps my favorite writer.
  16. Who is responsible for teaching shooting? In college overall, and at Indiana specifically? What does that teaching consist of? We still have players who shoot with terribly incorrect form. Most easily seen with free throws, but 3-point shots are too flat too often. I'd love to know what IU is doing about this, if anything. And having an assistant coach walk by and yell "hey, get a little air under that shot" and then continuing to walk away doesn't qualify as teaching. (This actually happened when Woodson first arrived. We then finished last in BigTen shooting for the 5th year in a row.)
  17. Hey now, don't dis L-Herbo Welk. In his day, the man could slay.
  18. Nice after-visit Q & A from Inside The Hall. His mom sounds awesome: "(Caleb) was having a great time. He really liked G Herbo, who I had never heard of. He loved it. It was great. We had a really good time.” https://www.insidethehall.com/2022/10/10/q-a-class-of-2024-wing-caleb-williams-and-his-mom-alison-recap-official-visit-to-indiana/
  19. Ukraine trolls Russia with this just-issued postal stamp to celebrate the recent bridge explosions. This is real, not satire. Google "Ukraine Bridge Stamp"
  20. Not an answer to your question, just a quick story. At a Wisconsin basketball game, years ago. Halftime in the old barn. Pro golfer Steve Stricker put on a fun show. They set up a fake-grass tee box at center court, then passed a peach basket around in the crowd. People held it up as a target. Not front row stuff. The basket went 30 rows up or more. He chipped in 18 of his 20 shots into the basket. All in different locations, different distances and angles. He did it for a lark. Just goofing around. It brought home just how much more talented these guys are than regular players.
