Indiana High School Football (2023)

Recommended Posts

Huge, standing room only crowd to open Silver Creek's new stadium tonight.  Charlestown won the game 28-13, though the game was much closer than that.  Charlestown scored a garbage touchdown and 2-point conversion with 30 seconds left for the final score.  The big play of the game is when Silver Creek fumbled a punt inside the 10 when Charlestown led 14-13.

A couple of really strange play calls, one for each side.  The background of the story is that Charlestown's placekicker is hurt.  Their coach was even on the record in the local paper as saying he was going to have to go for 2 every time.

So, in the 3rd quarter Silver Creek scores a TD to go up 13-8.  Instead of going for 1, they go for 2.  Chasing the point well before they need to.  They did not get it.  The math says the following.  You make the XP and go up 6. Charlestown is still going to have to go for two to take the lead, but they can now take the lead with either result since SC failed.  You miss it, like Silver Creek did, and all Charlestown needs is 6 points to take the lead.  That's exactly what happened.  They got the TD to go up 14-13, but missed the two.  If Silver Creek had simply kicked the extra point, then it would have been tied.  Even if Charlestown had made the 2, the score was 15-14 if SC simply kicked the point. A field goal would have given SC the lead back.  No part of the math equation says to go for 2 there.

After Charlestown scores a TD after the fumbled punt to go up 20-13, with no kicker they have to go for 2.  I have no problem with that given the circumstances.  What I thought was very questionable was the call itself.  You had to be at the game to appreciate this, but the Charlestown QB seemingly could get 3-4 yards with every run.  Hi literally was 90% of their offense on the ground.  He's a big and physical runner.   Their smaller backs had a much tougher time gaining yards, and frequently were stopped for losses or no gain.  But instead of putting the ball in their best player with a designed QB run to go up 9 (and effectively end the game), they do a direct snap to the running back who got nowhere close to the end zone.  It left the score 20-13.  If Silver creek could have come down and scored and got the extra point, it's likely the game would have gone to OT, where SC had the advantage with actually having a kicker for the XP or FG.

Extremely nice stadium they built over there in Stellersburg. I’ve heard their old one barely had any visitor seating

Yeah.  The older one was bad.  Silver Creek had to break away from a difficult school corporation situation with two smaller schools to get funding for any school improvements.  The new stadium is very, very nice.  Probably seats 7-8 times the number of fans compared to the old field, if not more.  Still a lot of construction going on, and the facilities will be even nicer when it is complete.

Not much defense in this one it seems but check the numbers out from Greenwood QB vs Seymour.

Greenwood QB Brock Riddle Week 1 stats - Passing: 20/26 (77%) 434 yards & 6 TDs Rushing: 8 carries 78 yards & 1 TD 51-49 win over Seymour. @riddle_brock

You just hate to see that for Seymour..... 😆

There is some wild scheduling shit going on lol...

Center Grove plays it's first 5 games against teams NOT from Indiana. Including teams from OH, TN, MO, and KY. (two teams from OH)... Center Grove does NOT play Warren, Ben Davis, or Carmel.

Arch Bishop Moeller (OH) plays it's first 4 games against teams from Indiana... Ben Davis, Dwenger, East Central, and Center Grove.

Carmel plays Trinity (KY), Christain Brothers (MO), and Detroit King.

Christain Brothers (MO) also plays Warren. Christian Brothers will travel two Indy twice this year to play games.

It sucked and was not reminiscent, I assume, of the type of structure the community wanted. They went cheap the first time...

They aren't this time. It's VERY nice. It was great to watch film of this week haha

They did that last year all year long...

SC def shouldn't have gone for two. After watching film.. I just now realized SC led this game late.

Yep...once CG and Carmel left the other one's this has always been identified as the transition year but still....4-5 states is just silly for high school football.

SIAC has a lot of late games this Friday all the way up until 8 pm start time

Would not be surprised to see some games moved to Saturday night.  Supposed to be dangerous heat Friday, but significantly cooler Saturday.

With football, there is no risk in varsity level scheduling conflicts.

I think we will see another push back too, looks like it will still be 90 degrees around 8 pm, but real feel up to 100 degrees
