You probably are right, but this is a brave new world. Who knows what some alum or group of alums would pony up to keep player(s) they think could bring them a championship. We're also talking Michigan here. Not exactly a bastion of ethical conduct.

That's true but if you're a kid like Houstan, who has struggled a bit in college ball, you have to look at where you'll be drafted too, or if you're going to be drafted at all...Before his freshman year, he was more highly rated on draft boards than he is now... If he went today and went say #30, his rookie contract is going to guarantee about $4 million over 3 years according to this scale. If he goes back to Michigan for one more year and can improve into the top 10, he can almost triple that...

Gunn is a player that I think will be earning minutes quickly next year as we transition away from post offense. Have watched him 4x this year and I keep seeing a better shooting Greg Graham. I think the nice thing is both guys have some physical ability, particularly length and decent quickness. I do like Woody’s emphasis on those features. You see it a lot with the guys he is recruiting.
Hoosier4Life53
Wow, Iowa by 26 over MSU. We may have hope for next year even if TJD and Trace move on. The Hawkeyes lost 2 NBA players in Garza and Wieskamp, and it looks like they might be better this year without them….you never know. Lurker's premise was even if TJD and Race leave, there is the potential to do what IA did this year, so Race isn't an option. Bates needs to be a key player next year, but I'd be shocked if he shoots like Bohannon, who is the all-time career 3 point shooter in the B1G. Bates is currently below 29% from three and 38% from two. He did shoot 38% from 3 at IMG, so there's potential to improve. Bohannon shot 42% from three as a freshman. Ah, I didn't go that far back, so apologies there. With that being said, I don't think we have someone that can turn into Keegan by next year if Race/TJD are gone. Agreed on Bates with respect to his outside shot, but I think he also is going to add the ability to drive and better defense than Bohannon. I'm basing this solely on TV observances, but he hit a nice runner in the lane against OSU, and he seems to be taking a bit of a leadership role in huddles and whatnot, too.

rico
Michigan St. per CBS: Michigan State is now a dismal 1-5 in its past six games and trending in the wrong direction. The Spartans have gone from 17-4 overall and 8-2 in the Big Ten to 18-9 overall and 9-7 in the Big Ten in a span of 18 days. They've been replaced in Wednesday's updated CBS Sports Top 25 And 1 daily college basketball rankings by the Iowa team that just beat them by 26 points while winning for the fifth time in six outings. The problem for Michigan State now is that things aren't going to get any easier. Next up is a home game with Purdue. Then comes road games at Michigan and Ohio State, followed by the regular-season finale with Maryland. The Spartans should be underdogs in three of those four contests, according to KenPom.com, so finishing above .500 in the Big Ten is no longer a given. And if the Spartans don't turn things around fast, they could become a part of the bubble conversation for the second straight season. There was a post on the Reddit college basketball board of him answering why he doesn't play zone, and he gave a really detailed, insightful answer. Also, it helps when you've had 17 years to build your culture and figure out what players to target on a regular basis to maximize your system, but Woody needs to do it in two years or else.
