  1. Based on that, we have more talent. Average approx 1/3 star higher on both O and D.
  2. What happened to follow the science? https://www.beckershospitalreview.com/pharmacy/two-top-fda-vaccine-leaders-to-retire.html Two of the FDA's top vaccine leaders are stepping down from their positions, Endpoints News reported Aug. 31, citing an internal letter sent to FDA staff. Marion Gruber, PhD, director of the FDA's Office of Vaccines Research & Review, will retire Oct. 31. She's been with the FDA for 32 years. Phil Krause, MD, the vaccine office's deputy director, will leave in November, according to the letter from Peter Marks, MD, PhD, who leads the agency's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research. A former senior FDA leader told Endpoints News the two leaders are stepping down from their roles because they're frustrated that the CDC and its Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices are involved in decisions they believe should be the FDA's. The White House's announcement that booster shots would be available Sept. 20, which was made without the FDA's approval, was reportedly what prompted the two leaders to step down. The FDA's former acting chief scientist Luciana Borio, MD, tweeted Aug. 31: "FDA is losing two giants who helped bring us many safe and effective vaccines over decades of public service."
  3. I believe so. Talk to your Dr about waiting (3 months?) for the second shot. You already have natural plus now the majority of the vaccine effectiveness. I posted something awhile back about a 3 month interval possibly increasing effectiveness.
  4. If "Scientific evidence for warming of the climate system is unequivocal", how do you explain this- https://strangesounds.org/2021/08/next-20-30-years-will-be-cold-and-thats-worst-than-global-warming-climate-scientist-warns.html ? If global warming supports more food creation, is it even a bad thing? I could go on forever here. Having been to Alaska and Glacier National Park, I have an interest in the glaciers and seeing more of them. My next big trip is hopefully to Iceland in a few years. Lets remember https://weather.com/science/environment/video/glacier-national-park-swaps-out-signs-predicting-no-glaciers-by-2020. Yes, some glaciers are retreating, but others are growing. Retreating glaciers are uncovering ancient forests so we know this isn't a new phenomenon. Polar bears are thriving, not dying, etc. Both sides have ample "evidence" to support their conclusions as one can twist the stats to support any narrative, or just change the data, to fit that narrative. This trip down memory lane shows a bunch of examples of failed past projections which is why many are doubtful of the latest dire projection of the day- https://cei.org/blog/wrong-again-50-years-of-failed-eco-pocalyptic-predictions/ As much as I would love to debate this topic, lets save the climate debate for another thread, or private messages, and keep this one focused on the (micro climate) weather events. Thanks!
  5. Such a tragic event. Girl riding her trike, obviously prepping for the Little 500 trike race, killed while riding in her cul-de-sac, not on some busy street. Where can kids be safe now? The driver/ murderer, a previously deported illegal, was arrested after fleeing the scene.
  6. I may have... Just saw it again. I never said not to wear a mask. Just wanted to point out masks are not some silver bullet. Mask mandates have been reinstated near me and with school beginning, kids are being forced to wear them. As you pointed out, their efficacy is likely minimal. Surgical masks are best but people are still not wearing properly and most are using lesser quality masks. The cloth ones may be causing their own issues. As long as virus particles can easily pass through most masks, it seems to make sense that any effect, on the wearer or others, is likely to be minimal. I wish we would focus more on areas like improving the immune system and early onset treatments to keep people out of hospitals,
  7. Back to weather events, NYC got some rain. Stay dry @Lostin76!
  8. That is why I think stopping the run and establishing the running game will be our keys to victory
  9. With mask mandates returning, let's revisit the science. The largest Random Controlled Trial (gold standard of research) on masks and covid to date - https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33205991/ The study found that 1.8 percent of those in the mask group and 2.1 percent of those in the control group became infected with Covid-19 within a month, with this 0.3-point difference not being statistically significant. This study is with SURGICAL masks. Very few are wearing these today. Personally, I'm lucky enough to have access to good quality medical, but not surgical quality, masks. What about cloth masks? A cloth mask “may potentially increase the infection risk” for health-care workers. “The virus may survive on the surface of the facemasks,” they explain, while “a contaminated cloth mask may transfer pathogen from the mask to the bare hands of the wearer,” which could lead to hand hygiene being “compromised.”
  10. I've seen many instances where the Weather Channel cannot predict rain 2 hours in advance.
  11. It used to be simple. Science had a scientific method we all learned. Now science is used and manipulated to provide a rationale for ones beliefs. Scientists are recruited to sign on to paper that can be used as evidence and dissenting voices are squashed. What good is science when a scientist cannot propose a hypothesis? I know some people have their head stuck in the sand and believe this couldn't happen, or isn't happening. But it is. As "science" changed, that meant weather was sure to follow. Much easier to blame the weather for a forest fire than admit to forest mismanagement.
  12. A Dr raises some good points here- https://www.theepochtimes.com/whos-really-being-hospitalized_3963392.html?utm_source=partner&utm_campaign=ZeroHedge We have always known the #s are unreliable. I think it was a mistake to over promote the vaccines as stopping / lessening transmission and a 98% effectiveness in preventing Covid. They obviously do lessen the severity and therefore deaths but they clearly aren't as effective as originally advertised at prevention or minimizing transmission. Would have been much more helpful if the CDC and others set clear expectations from the beginning. Boosters, especially if the formula hasn't changed to account for variants, don't seem to make much sense to me at this point.
  13. Heartbreaking that 50+ dogs were left behind 😢
  14. Its going to take awhile to get the lights back on in New Orleans.... Energy provider Entergy Corp has been surveying the damage since Monday and has found 207 transmission lines spanning more than 2,000 miles have been knocked out by the storm, according to WSJ.
  15. Been a bit since I've checked in on this thread. Thought I'd share a quick story about my German Shepherd. 2 weekends ago we took him to the dog friendly Weko beach for a walk along the Lake Michigan Beach. He is not much of a water dog, or a walker, but he went along with it. Thinking the exercise and 90 degree day would have tired him out, we stopped at the Haymarket Brewery afterwards. They have a large outdoor area where dogs are allowed. It was busy and after a short wait we got our table. Had our pizza and beer. There were at least half a dozen other dogs there all laying down, some under the tables for shade. Our Jack never sat down once. He was standing at alert watching all the goings on and everyone that walked near us. Was neat seeing the working dog side of him in action.

  17. Iowa game notes- https://hawkeyesports.com/news/2021/08/27/game-notes-iowa-vs-indiana-2/ I hope we blow this up- 7: Iowa has played 22 straight games without surrendering 25 points, the longest streak in the nation among Power 5 teams. The Hawkeyes ranked No. 1 in the nation in 2020 in defensive yards per play (4.3). Iowa ranked No. 2 in the conference in total defense (313.8) and scoring defense (16.0), No. 3 in rush defense (107.6) and No. 5 in pass defense (206.1).
  18. I'm excited to get this season under way. I think a key will be stopping their run and establishing our running game. If we can do that, I like our chances.
  19. I've done the Meyers Briggs as well as a couple others many years ago in my corporate days. Don't recall what I am. These are incredibly useful for high school Jrs looking to see which colleges may be a good fit, college freshman trying to decide on a major, and or other young adults trying to decide on a career path.
  20. Great to see First Line Brewing honoring the fallen- https://www.instagram.com/p/CTF0n7frFHG/
  21. I hope so. Avoid the drops and the stage is set for a big season.
  22. I'm not saying not to get vaccinated- especially older and at risk groups. It is more a point that if you have natural immunity, there is a much lower benefit to you from a vaccine and that should be weighed against the risks. Were you making the same argument for the Flu vaccine? Look at the stats- https://www.lifesitenews.com/opinion/scientist-delta-variant-more-transmissible-not-more-deadly/ The CDC’s latest breakthrough numbers, as of July 25, show 6,587 fully vaccinated people with COVID breakthrough cases. Of those, 1,263 people died. The vaccine didn't help them NBC News contacted health agencies in 50 states and the District of Columbia to collect information on breakthrough cases, citing a lack of comprehensive data available from the CDC. Data collected from 38 states showed more than 125,000 fully vaccinated Americans tested positive for COVID, and 1,400 died. Hmmm, Incomplete and inaccurate data... 6500 vs 125,000 break through cases! Hope that is not driving lockdown decisions. The Delta variant that everyone is so worried about may be 20x less lethal than Covid. Virus evolution 101 according to Brian Hooker, Ph.D., P.E., Children’s Health Defense chief scientific officer and professor of biology at Simpson University. Anyone concerned that getting so many vaccinated may be leading to more vaccine resistant strains? https://childrenshealthdefense.org/defender/vaccinated-people-key-role-evolution-dangerous-covid-variants/ Early signs are that the Delta wave is peaking yet new restrictions are just starting. I went in Costco this week only to be given a mask and told that they are now mandatory. When natural immunity counts equally as vaccine (as it does in Europe) I will know the science is outweighing the politics.
  23. I think most people knew this. Now we have confirmation. Natural immunity 13x more effective against the Delta variant than the vaccines- https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2021/08/having-sars-cov-2-once-confers-much-greater-immunity-vaccine-no-infection-parties
