I had an odd night where I had to watch this thing late at night because of a work obligation. I did skip over some of the unraveling in the second half.  I could see where it was headed and fast forwarded in the hopes that I was wrong.

I will say that one thing that has been undersold from the comments is the HEART of those guys who went out there and played.

Trey is proving his fan base more and more right.  Let’s just move him into a 30 minute per game role and be done with it.  Love this kid.

From an X’s and O’s standpoint, one observation. If the defense is collapsing on Trayce, I’d rather them hit the open man than watch Trayce force up a brick. The better choice is to force the help off Trayce by hitting shots elsewhere.  If you balance that out better, they won’t collapse on Trayce so hard.  It was working so they kept doing it.  One play begets another.  We need to break that cycle.

They were, shots were not dropping.  There best shot was around the rim.  Kopp, etc just didn't have buckets dropping.  When that happens, go with your strength.

We were able to the game early, as soon as they opened at 6:30.  Leal is struggling with his shot, even before game.  However, the kid played 100%.  Shots were just not falling and that is where I observed the need for Parker to be out there.  They don't have range, and hopefully that is developed this summer.

If free throws went in, different story.  To have 3 T's is what really hurt.  All 3 were questionable.

Healthy Rob, even with the 5 out.  Different story.

So it was curfew and not drug related according to Rabby.

But, others have heard.  Its sad when due process is not given to players  and especially young adults who are still kids.  I was at the game, it was sad not to see some of these kids play.  But, the rumors that I have read on this board last night and this morning, sad.

These kids should follow the rules and Woodson IS setting the culture.  What many do not understand is that Coach wants to win, he also wants to leave this program is top shape and that is his ultimate goal - sustainable success.

And, by the way, this program facilitates drug tests.  Just saying to help with some of the rumors.

The kids last night played their hearts out.  A pg made DIY and just in time.  TJD was hit all game and since his injury has not been the same - but he is grinding it out.

And to the Indiana fans - there was one sitting behind me - the arm chair yelling comments (too much dribbling, etc.)--- ugggg.

My son, who is destined to go to IU as it is in his blood said, "I thought Indiana Basketball fans know the game".......?

I think it’s both for sure, although in defense of TJD and Race I may be slow to quick it out too if I know the two best shooters on the team aren’t going to pull the trigger.

I beleive in both of these players.  Would love to see TJD face up at the rim and using his jumping ability to develop a little fade away 5-10' from the rim.  The big,big centers give him trouble - he is to good not to add a face-up game.

In the game, X was stretching his foot - wonder if cramping was happening?

The inability to hit 3's comes back time after time and when Race and Trayce aren't scoring, it is a weakness.  Michigan and Illinois- would love to have those games back.

why don't we ever play Durr with TJD?  Let TJD go to work on someone his own size or, if they cross-match Kofi back onto TJD, Durr will have someone way too small for him.  On defense, same thing - and it keeps TJD out of foul trouble.

Woody is a smart guy who has been in this game longer than I've been alive, so I'm sure there is a reason.

Who is to say Illinois will guard that way?  It is in Illinois benefit to have Kofi guard a guy who doesn't shoot more than 5' from the basket.

I need a little more evidence before casting one look at Allen. What he's done for our program deserves benefit of the doubt in my book. With that said he's in charge and if we go another year like last year (don't think we will) it's part of the business where people will start looking at him.

Allen took over a program that was built by Wilson.  He ran things different and on paper it was positive.  Is some of his teachings wearing off?  He talks about integrity, accountability....  Then all this stuff with coaches and favoritism is starting to leak.  And other signs over the year.  Now, he takes over the D when it was obvious he couldn't do both a few years ago.  What is happening?  Dolson needs to step in at some point.

I still trust the Coach Allen has his ducks in a row on this one. If McCullough actually, was not seeing eye to eye with Coach Allen on certain things, then he needs to go. I’m just guessing, no inside info. Yes he has some talented sons that could make immediate impact at IU, he’s not the head coach nor is he bigger than IU.

Could be, but one has to ask why was it reported your OC, DC didn't see eye to eye, then a few position coaches the same?  Something is not adding up.  I don't understand what is going on with the leadership of the program.

I’m sorry, but coaches that continue to hop from job to job like this really pi$$wz me off! When does the loyalty, longevity and pride in a program ever stick. Good grief!

There has to be a reason and we will probably never fully learn the extent of it.  His entire family was part of the program.  I'm still confused on why Justin Frye was not a candidate for Allen and how they let him go to OSU.

Coach CM was awesome and a talented recruiter.  Still hope this is a bad dream.

If one of his most decorated coaches jumps ship that is worrisome but not necessarily mean we are headed for trouble. If we continue to struggle....then those signs really become larger though.

If any of this is true, this would be a huge hit.  You loose your somone who came back from the NFL to raise his boys in Bloomington and then he might leave.  OL has been a weakness and if the good old boys network is how Allen does business it is a negative look.   I hope this is not true and I also hope Allen sees he needs all the help he can get on O after last season and 0 bowl win on his resume.

I agree TJD may be "better", but Race has more bulk than TJD and can take Cockburn's incesant banging better IMO

Going to be interesting to see who gets the star treatment with the refs.  Not to relive Mich game, but Trayce didn't get calls that he should of.  On top of that, he still was a week off injury sustained at Nebraska.  Hopefully this is where Durr can come in and keep position and wear down KC.  Race does so much on Offense and Defense that wearing him down might be a slight part of decison making.

Am I crazy thinking that Illinois isn’t that good? I know they have a great record, some good wins, and a couple dominant players. But watching them on tv I’m rarely impressed with their execution outside of Kofi. I think this is a very winnable game if our perimeter defense is good.

Illinois has the talent to be elite.  They have been inconsistent with player availability and that has probably played into continuity.  They can get hot and light it up!  They are not a team to overlook and they are a team that can make a deep run in the tourney.

Reading some ND boards, one says he's not coming, another said he's interviewing this week.

Please be just a rumor.  My question is why?  Went from IU to USC to NFL back to IU when he could of had any job.  Please be just a rumor!

Getting waxed on national TV is never fun, but I think anyone on this forum would take 1-1 in the 2 games we just had.

For sure!  And, I think this team knows this was a winnable game.  Back to playing hard core defense.  Woodson was right when he said after the game, the starting 5 was playing hoping they will miss instead of making them miss.  Get back to the lab, learn and go IU.

I gotta quit telling myself that both this team and Rob Phinisee have "turned the corner."

Landen Turner is an example of someone who turned the corner and a season took off.  The difference is that Turner had elite althletic ability, length and skills.  Rob is still a solid player on this team and he will win games.  However; he needs shots to fall.

Just thinking- I would of loved to see Green play in this system.

I like our chances going against those coaches and universities. If he said final of Duke UK and IU I’d be more nervous about it. He’s looking at style of play. Woody will play his style. 1-5 shooting buckets from everywhere. If you are open you shoot.

There are factors that will help us against the above named.  Coach Woodson, his reputation, NBA DNA, etc.  Elite recruits will want that.

Now, what has happened with Duke is that fact they can buy houses, jewelry, cash without a hand slap.  Heck, it could be all over the internet and FBI investigations and not a slap.

NIL will help others, until we learn that we will go that route to the extent of others.

Coach Woodson is beloved in basketball circles, handlers, families will want their kids to play there.

    Other factors, playing time, etc.

  15. Just thinking of this staff.. how many in NCAA history had or have

-2 NBA Lottery picks? , Hill, Woodson

    -McDonalds AA, Fife

-2 who played/coached in championship game - Fife, Matta

-2 who played and coached in the NBA

-A head coach, who played, was an AA, played in the NBA, was a head coach in the NBA, and assistant.

Throw in Hunter, Ya, etc.  Wow!

They talk about the Arkansa coach, but he never had the experience of playing like Coach Woodson, they talk about Pitino coaching in both, but again playing.

Then, coaching your hometeam, home state, Bob Knight player, etc.

Playing Michigan today had me thinking, and as big of a fan as I am of Howard and his resume....nothing compared to Woodson as far as combo of both playing and coaching.

Then, throw in all these ex players announcers talking about how cool and good of a coach he is....need to make clips of that.

    Morning rant.

    Kenya Hunter

Kenya Hunter is awesome to these kids.   Here is another coach who is making a big impact on the program, and no one really knows.  He also might have one of the best resumes in the NCAA.  Awesome podcast with Armond Hill https://247sports.com/college/indiana/Article/Hoosier-Hysterics-Podcast-Armond-Money-Hill-180440842/

Also, if you have a chance watch the Michael Durr interview from today- its on insidethehall - the kid is awesome.

Great observation.   I then think back to DJ White.  He was great with his back to the basket.   But also - when they kicked out, they were very effective that way too.

DJ White was able to knock it down pass the free throw line.  TJD is the best player and the inside of Purdue is their strength + Ivy.  Worked for this game, but other teams that do not have the size, inside out is the eay to go.  Next year and beyond when you have more playmakers we will see more a 4out 1 in and different play.  When Bates, Jordan, recruits etc take over, their style will change.  Thats one thing Coach has shown, he adapts style on O for personal.

TJD is very important to the success of this team.  With Durr, they had to guard his shooting ability, or at least respect it.

And, if Rob continues to play his game, teams will guard him differently and it is even more important than to dibble drive and get the ball inside out.

Is this the guards just not doing what they should or is it an adjustment to try and adjust to how they are adjusting to us at halftime.  Its not the first time we just stop feeding the one person who pretty much can score at will.  Especially while we have a decent lead.

Guards not doing what they should.  They are taught how to create passing angles and how to break the press.  A few turnovers were do to no passing angles.
