I agree we need a guy like that, but probably the 2 most prominent "go to" guys in the Big 10, Keegan Murray and Johnny Davis, were both 150+ on 247 (Murray was actually 300+)...

So an honest question here...why does it seem that so many other teams in the Big 10 develop players like this? Trevion Williams was 150+...D'Mitrik Trice was 300+ in the rankings...

Is it a question of development? Judging talent?

I think Coach Woody is behind the 8 ball on a lot of our current roster, because they're pretty much developed for the most part...

But are we seeing good development on some of our younger kids?

    Couple of thoughts:

Both kids have things in common:

A 5th year solid pg that makes the right play and can open up the floor with shooting ability.

Both are extremely athletic and have fluid balance.

    Both have wingspan.

We consistently collapse when the future (Geronimo, Bates, etc.) comes into the game.

The bench consistently killed the momentum.

Yes, but you have to develop them.  Its a tug of war.  The starters couldn't handle pressure either.  Something that has to be considered at some point.  Interesting Leal is getting no play.

Not gonna happen with this group. Just aren't enough. I'll keep doing what I've done for the last 5 years and hope we get a new batch of players next year who are different.

IU wants to make the tourney, and they feel veterans are the way to go.  However, at some point when do you let the future get a true run and see what they can do?  The goal is final four in the next few years.  Just a thought

  4. Very winnable game.  Those silly turnovers that were forced by wrong decisions and being in the wrong place by veterans.

How did they not look at the replay on the last Parker play with the elbow to the face?

Refs were horrible and pg's looked like they never broke a pass in their basketball career.

Offensive rebounds by Iowa, missed free throws by IU.  Turnovers.....

Hopefully this is part of the journey to learning to win on the road.

Refs should also look at the tape

you break one or 2 at a time not all 5 starters at once.

Get the break all at once, that come out and take the lead.  Yes, that is a strategy and not disagreeing....right now Indiana looks a step a head, and maybe the strategy is working.

Watching the NC game and the big thing I saw (and it wasn't a secret; Herbstreit and Fowler talked about it extensively) was the pure speed of Georgia's defense, especially their bigs. They didn't just flush Young out of the pocket, they chased him and got him on occaison.

My hope is that Randolph pushes for these types and we can get this speed, and it looks like we are with the transfers coming in.

Speed and size.  Those are elite recruits and we need NIL money for football to help out there.  Has there been any NIL football deals yet?

Who knows, maybe he is blackmailing Tom lol

Read a tweet saying Ohio State might being hiring Justin Frye?  Why has it been so difficult to bring back this former Hoosier captain?

Also, like said above, read that the DC and DL changes have been orchestrated and part of the plan.  If true, makes sense as the D was not exhibiting the Allen identity.

Woody really seems to coach him hard. I agree with most here...kid is just wanting to win badly...and be a leader...but sometimes doesn't always make the heads up play...but I have no worries Woody won't reign him in or isn't on top of it.

Xavier is a fun player to watch and as he goes, IU goes.  His endless energy and will to win is his top asset and his leadership with his teammates was a missing ingredient in the past.

He is best on the run and is growing when slowing it down, while running clock and letting a play develop.  I have a feeling he will grow in this area and by big ten tournament time IU will be at its best.

Anyone have any inside information on the status of us signing any quarterbacks?

    Thank you

Wish I did. I do hope DM can have a productive offseason with his development.  He has some tools that were on display in limited play.

Sounds like they are going to host some officials after the holidays.  It will be interesting to see who.

That's interesting.  Part of the Bo Nix mystique was created his freshman year with the hail mary touchdown pass that helped Auburn beat Oregon. Talk about a serious culture and geographic change.

From the espn article, he is following one of his old position coaches.  It helps to have connections for immediate possible impact.  Got to think Coach has his target locked in and soon we will know.

Are we a perfect team, no but there is no such thing as a perfect team.  I just wish after the win there was not so much critiquing of what we did wrong rather than what we did right.  I just think to many fans my age thinks they are a coach instead of just a fan.  It goes back to us watching coach Knight and thinking like him instead of just a person watching the game.

Thats your perspective.  I took Coach Knights class, and he had us critique the games (there is data to counter what you said). There are fans that watch for entertainment and there are fans that get attached and want to talk about the team and the game.  Another example would be the movie Hoosiers that everyone loves...the whole town had something to say about everything.  That is Indiana basketball and that is what makes this fan base awesome.  No one is negatively talking about anything, talking about the game and what is yet to become.

Definitely agree that he needs to make better decisions and play smarter, but the attitude he is putting out there will help everyone across the board, and it’s one of the glaring things that has been missing from this team for years. I’ll also admit that i didn’t see much of his play at Pitt, so not sure if this is just who he is or if it can be harnessed.

In addition, he’s not the only one that needs to clean up some things on the offensive end. Kopp and others (including XJ)  took some really bad 3s early in the shot clock, we had the usual handful of sloppy TOs, and we allowed ND to dictate tempo in general. But, yeah, agreed that if we can get more consistent play from XJ, this could be a very dangerous team.

Early on Xavier scouting report is that when he drives to the rim, its slow to fast and his only option to layup.  He has not shown the ability, yet, to drive to the free throw line and below and make a decision to pass.  This is where all our pg's development needs, in my opinion.  I'm sure they are working on it, but in game time play, it doesn't yet become natural.  In the 4-1, you need the drive and dish as a tool to create.  IU, primarly, has to go inside out to create on the permiter (non sets and quick hitters).   There is no question that Kopp and Parker are light out shooters...they are not ones that will rip by the defender and be able to create consistently.  That is where the pg has to come in.  Now, the one that has shown flashes to do this is Lander.  However, the pressure D that Xavier and Rob can create outweight the Offense as D will keep you in every game.

Looking forward to see if the pg can develop in this area.  It is not an easy skill to develop and one that sometimes has to start early in development.  Just some thoughts.

We have an erratic point guard and our wings lack athleticism. When we NEED a bucket, it can be a struggle.  So we aren’t there yet.  But we should still be competitive this year.  I think a 7-10 seed in the tourney.  If we exceed my expectations, I’d love it.

Very true.  This team still has a high ceiling.  They lack a player that can shoot over someone, make their own shot.  Most teams seem to have that athlete, at least one.  Jordan and Bates are those two athletes.  Jordan needs to figure out how not to get beat on D and he will see more time.  The elevation he can get on his shot and the wrist snap can be dangerous.

I have no idea how he got this far with such a bizarre form.  He looks like like a third grader who shoots that way because he needs upper body strength. Or maybe somebody who played with George Mikan.

Hitch is for sure there, being a lefty makes it look even more unnatural.

Love the comeback and the defense but hate that it had to take falling behind by 9. Can’t start off like that in places like Mackey.

If this team can cut hard and make solid passes, the team would be undefeated.  There is something about the processing in a player making decision offense with their passing.

He’s basically considering transferring to IU or staying at Maryland. Hasn’t visited anyplace else. If he would’ve made a decision by this signing period it was likely he was staying put.

Got it!  That would be a huge positive and maybe there is still a chance?  It wouldn't be the only brothers on the team next year!

  17. Coach Allen mentioned going after two qb's - been kind of quiet on this front.  Any chatter?  Going into the season wonder the feeling the staff has about Jack or Donovan being the leader of the room?  As we know, qb play is crucial to success and there is no clear plan as of right now.  Then again, coach said in the last press conference his goal for recruitment.  And, we know both qb's currently on the team were 4 star sought after kids.  Curious....
