  1. Respectfully, you aren't being realistic. At all.
  2. They did, for at least 15 minutes. He started to leave in fact but then came back. He refused to identify who he was at first and refused to roll down the window to talk. He was being a dick and they still gave him 15 minutes to get his sh** straight before they had enough. And now reading what IndyResident16 posted from the report again, he only decided to take off when they announced their intention to arrest him. That is fleeing and he knew why they wanted him out of the car. MM was a dumbass in this situation. He is solely responsible for the outcome. I hope he learns from it because he is someone who potentially has a future most people could only dream of and that future is going to come with a spotlight and employers who will cut pay for guys doing dumb ish.
  3. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't. If you are a crazy shooter and they roll up and give a polite knock then they or someone else likely gets killed. If they roll up with max force and things go wrong and you are innocent, then that is a bad outcome as well. Which is why I think you throw the book at people for false reporting. They don't let them sit that close because experience tells them that letting a person be within eyesight of those they just had an issue with is more likely to lead to another altercation. The Taco Bell was closing. The employees would be going home. MM was worked up enough about not getting food to be willing to get arrested for it. Him sitting over there could be him waiting for the employee to come out after work and fight. That is why they make you leave, not walk a few feet off the property and wait. They want you physically and visually away from the property so that you will hopefully cool off. If they let him sit there I am willing to bet there was a greater than 50% chance they would have been called right back because MM would have escalated again.
  4. The reason they don't let them sit nearby is because A)they don't have a duty to babysit someone raging over Tacos and B)they know that if they let the person sit there without supervision the likelihood they are going to go back and get in another altercation is significantly increased. MM wasn't going over there to cool off. I know, I know I am not in his head but I have been a ticked off 18 year old before. He would have been right back there raising hell that he didn't get his Doritos Locos taco. If this was any other student nobody would be talking about a need to placate the guy. MM messed up. It isn't the end of the world but based on what we know there is no excuse for what he did and the police didn't owe him any more special privileges that no one else would get. He got all the deescalation attempts in the world when he was told to leave. He should have left. Period. That being said, it isn't the end of the world. He messed up. I think you find a way to make this more of a "time to grow up dude" learning experience. I don't think it requires a draconian suspension. Most of the punishment should be things we never find out about.
  5. Yeah, I get being scared/angry from your POV. From their POV you are potentially a person who was just shooting at people a few minutes ago and when they show up you are armed. I think the penalties for SWATting should be extremely severe. Your neighbor should have gotten jail time, that is how serious I believe that "prank" is.
  6. So you are making two points, on the first point, if they get a call that someone is shooting up a place I think that pulling up like that is justified. For the police. I put all the blame for what happened to Mr. Flynn on the neighbor. And because of how serious what they did was, I think people that SWAT others should face charges up to attempted murder. People like Flynn's neighbor should get the book thrown at them. In the second point, I think the police did attempt to deescalate the situation based on what was reported. They gave MM several instances to leave. He wouldn't. They don't have all night (morning) to play nice with someone who has become unreasonable. Taco Bell didn't want to serve him and it is their property. They can ask him to leave and the police can enforce their wishes. Based on what we know (asked to leave several times, parked car, moved and parked again, moved across street like he was going to wait for police to leave and then come back) MM had several opportunities to go and he was given the opportunity to deescalate. If all he wanted was the police to force TB to give him food, they can't do that. The restaurant can refuse service if he was acting out. He is solely to blame for getting himself arrested.
  7. I would do one game at most for the public facing punishment. For stuff not in the public eye, I would seriously consider a curfew as part of the punishment. One thing that a player like MM needs to learn quickly is that if you are a one and done guy, you don't get more chances to make these mistakes. You are going to be looking at a bunch of money and scrutiny, you just can't let this type of thing happen again.
  8. Yes and I tried to be as respectful as possible to get out of the situation. I have been told to leave places (house party when I was legal to drink) and I left. In Bloomington. After having graduated. You know what I did? Left. Why?, because that little bit of fun (or tacos in this case) wasn't worth getting arrested. I am sorry about your swatting incident. That is scary. I don't think that is a police problem though. That is a crappy neighbor. They have to go off the info they are given and if you really were shooting at people, showing up and casually knocking on your door could get them killed. In your instance there should be harsh consequences for your neighbor IMO. The police were just doing their job. I hope MM learns from this experience. If I were Woodson after everything had calmed down, I would try and see if I could get those officers to talk to MM so they each get a chance to understand each other when cooler heads have prevailed.
  9. He was given multiple opportunities to leave and he kept escalating by parking and coming back. Over f-ing tacos. Just stop. This isn't on the cops. It is on Mgbako being a dumbass that night. That may not be reflective on him in total, but at least on that night he was making a series of bad decisions that led to him getting his car window broken out and yanked out of the car. That happened because he didn't listen when given a lawful order to get the f--- off someone else's property. Whether the TB employees are terrible at their jobs is immaterial at the point the police show up at nearly 3 a.m. and tell you it is time to leave.
  10. That isn't a police problem, it is a neighbor problem.
  11. They could have been dicks too. However, at the point it escalates to where cops are breaking out a window and dragging you out of your car over Taco Bell, you have entered the Dave Chapelle skit "When Keeping it Real Goes Wrong."
  12. I don't like that attitude though. I am sure MM got a really nice payday to come to IU. Those Taco Bell employees are probably making about $13 an hour and are either other college students or someone who isn't nearly as privileged as he is. If he was being an asshole to them then the Taco Bell employees shouldn't give a rat's behind how good he is at putting an orange ball through a red cylinder. A sense of entitlement is what can lead some of these dudes to act out like that.
  13. So I think that is more egregious than my initial thoughts. Not team dismissal worthy but an instance of WTF are you thinking dude?
  14. Right. I have no inside info but you can get charged with that stuff if you are at a party that gets busted and you try to leave. If I were a betting man I would bet it was one of those two scenarios. If that is the case, meh. Learning experience for the kid and likely they can get the charges dropped.
  15. Criminal trespass and resisting law enforcement could be something like a party being broken up and refusing to leave. If he wasn't drinking and was at a friend's, I could see someone getting belligerent about that and telling the police to "F off, I haven't done anything wrong." Dumb response IMO but that stuff happens...particularly at that age. The main thing that these guys need to learn is that they aren't like every other student and that sometimes that means being a little more responsible about how, where, and when you spend your free time. "Criminal trespass happens when a person enters someone else's property and intends to commit a crime or when the person is asked to leave the property and refuses. In Indiana, criminal trespass is a misdemeanor punishable by fines." https://www.oflaherty-law.com/learn-about-law/what-are-trespassing-laws-in-indiana#:~:text=Criminal trespass happens when a,a misdemeanor punishable by fines.
  16. Yeah, for his sake he better be NBA ready when he hits UK because they sure as sh** don't develop it.
  17. We have managed to land a good dude late every year and we have a 4 year PG on the roster now. If a 17 year old kid decides to go to Kentucky, we'll all be fine tomorrow. The staff just needs to keep building on the year prior.
  18. Maybe so, and if so, oh well. I am mainly talking about everything leading up to this point. How many times recently have we had a guy "in the bag" only to end up with one of these last minute changes? I think whomever is spilling beans on the Indiana side is faaaaar too optimistic and that all these "in the know" guys keep getting burned when Indiana is involved because of that. People need to stop counting chickens before they are hatched.
  19. Not sure why everyone is hanging on this Trilly dude. He appears to just be reading tea leaves too. If it does end up being Kentucky for this one, then he has been wrong up until the last minute. How is that any better than the Rivals guys who have a school for 99% of the time and then switch it last minute before a commitment? Stop getting hopes up based on dudes who don't even put their real name behind what they are saying.
  20. Speaking of Logan, saw where he just walked away from basketball for health reasons.
  21. We are going to be back in that conversation real soon.
