Honest question:

Which season do you want?

Purdue or IU?

before the NCAA I was solid Purdue but the other option wasn’t bad

Now I’m not sure

Purdue choked against one of the worst teams to EVER make the NCAA

Add that to the 💩 list

At least 🦚 could play.

IU just didn’t show up with much effort

Rebounding & defense are effort & heart.  When you played hard you were a top 10 team.  XJ might have been the missing guy to get that effort out of his teammates

playing hard is number one thing on my list (why I hated the Jaden Ivey experience) but losing to a 16 seed is forever 🤮💩🐓🤕☠️

Effort can be fixed but can choking ?

Not much difference really. Yeah Purdue won big ten regular and tournament but failed miserably in the NCAA tournament. IU dealt with injuries and was fun to watch. Got knocked out of tournament by a quality team. Nothing to be ashamed of by the season at all. Not what we wanted but given injuries it was OK

In your opinion, what’s the solution? I think this team just grossly outperformed expectations and wore down throughout the year. You could tell Smith and Loyer were struggling down the stretch. Def could’ve used another veteran ball handler.

I honestly don’t agree with the writer. Ncaa tournament is about matchups…and one bad night can send you home. Sometimes you just don’t match up well…that was us against Miami last night…sometimes you have a bad night….I felt like that was last year for you guys…however this year…it was just a choke job. Freshman guards that weren’t ready for the moment. I also think you guys play with too slow of pace. Your best teams had more athleticism…Edwards, Easton defensive specialist, and the sharpe shooting Cline to go with your big Harms. It was a more balanced team. You just don’t have anyone that can take someone off the dribble and break down a defense. The good news is your guards will get better…bad news is they won’t likely get much bigger or athletic and you will lose your once in a generation center.

Geez…losing to a 16 will be on repeat forever….but I want to win the B1G and B1G tourney. You guys overachieved for sure. I think I had you finishing 4th…and us 3rd…but I was really off. I thought Ohio St was going to win the B1G lol.

Im very disappointed in how we competed the other night….mostly because we won’t have a big like Trayce for a long time probably…but to make it worse he might have been the worst culprit. I felt a S16 was our ceiling without X…but no excuses…it wasn’t like he got hurt in the tourney or right before. We had played enough without him to hace adjusted. Tournament is no place for freshman guards…they just don’t understand the level of intensity necessary and every good team in the tourney has great guards.

Did it look like TJD & JHS had an issue last night?  Something didn’t look right

I thought Gillis, Morton & Newman looked scared for seniors

Well…yes your seniors looked timid…but that is where guards usually settle a team in. They run the offense they get the ball where it is suppose to be they just are floor generals. Smith will be that someday…it just wasn’t today (last week). Honestly I was shocked Painter didn’t do a better job of getting guys the ball where they wanted it. It almost seemed like the game plan was for Edey to catch and pass out of the double instead of finish over it. It just plan and simple wasn’t your normal game plan and you guys didn’t look comfortable trying to execute it…and then the tension built until you broke.

JHS just looked like he thought it was another game. He didn’t play with urgency and almost seemed like he was checked out. Sometimes Frehman don’t know what they don’t know. They don’t know how painful it is to lose and your career be over (especially one’s going to the nba). He played like he had no skin in the game. Trayce just I think got winded…he was chasing guys on the perimeter all night…he wasn’t getting the ball on offense…and I really thought he just felt like he was going to out jump guys like he usually does but his man out worked him and he couldn’t move him…hard to say…it want like early in the season when he had the bad back..he want limited he just wasn’t focused. Just bad time to get out hustled.

I think how well Purdue did at the PK85 really reset expectations and went from hey it’s a rebuilding year to whoa this team is number 1 even though we still lacked athleticism and experience (especially at the guard spot). But still can’t lose to a 16 seed lol. Have to get a legit guard in the portal that’s a non-negotiable IMO. Can’t bank on Colvin coming in and being a stud on day 1.

Here's a recent article in the New York Times about Purdue Basketball. Great read for those interested...image.thumb.png.3856ec7bea0f6c538d90d8971064739c.png

Not everyone on Purdue is tall. Only 1 guy every year is really…and they can play good basketball…just not in March. To be honest…neither can we. The B1G conference hides a lot of deficiencies…like athleticism and shooting..that gets exposed come March and we both have that same issue. They just had more expectations.

I thought Newman might turn into that guy…one that could get his own shot but that was a flash in the pan…you just need one guard or wing minimum…two would be special.

Little more freedom in that offense. Everyone is flawed…you still have a really good team…just a tough time to lay an egg…like us….our team was too talented not to be a S16 team.

I'd say it's more that Jerome has been convinced that he's not the dead-eye 3 point shooter he tried to be at IU.

In his 2 years at IU Hunter shot 136 3 pointers (32%) ... His first year at Xavier, he shot 66 (at a whopping 21% success rate)

This year, he's shot 9 and made 1...Yet he averages 25 mpg, and his overall fg  percentage is 58%...

So it seems to me he's changed his game to help the team, and probably did so with Sean Miller telling him that was his pathway to more minutes...

Seans brother should have done that...

yep…I have no clue what I was thinking…totally the wrong player. Jerome had a lot of nice moves around the basket..he definitely is more the player we saw coming out of HS as opposed to forcing up 3s. He was trying to fill a deficiency in our offense and being forced into a role he didn’t fit (even if I do think he had a nice stroke). Xavier doesn’t need that from him and he provides what they need…much better fit for them.

He's like their version on Race Thompson...
