  1. Who knows what was said to them but you have to think that guards looking at our roster (from a distance) and seeing two senior guards slotted in the starting lineup probably questioned how much they would start/play.
  2. Is he the next Damon Bailey? 😜
  3. Interesting that Purdue fans complain about over and back calls while fans of Purdue's opponents complain about over the back calls (or lack there of)
  4. Absolutely. I would love to see TG be more vocal and get up in guys faces. I would love to see more of that from MR as well. He's arguably our best player and has a "right" to be a vocal leader even if he's just a sophomore.
  5. My opinion is that the "head of the snake" on the court is the main contributor to the inconsistency of this team. Yes, there are weaknesses with the roster, etc. etc. but when your super senior, captain, point guard is all over the map, it's hard for a team without another respected, vocal leader (like TJD was) to not follow
  6. Neither have I. Saturday showed me that this team and staff haven't mailed it in.
  7. Really only he could say, but I couldn't see him sticking it out for more than 5 more years.
  8. 100% agree with the importance of stability. I posted last week about how many culture shifts this program has gone through and it's crazy. I'm not in the "Woodson needs to go" camp, I'm in the "Woodson needs to grow" camp. The problem is, does he have time to do that? If he was 10-15 years younger, I don't think this thread exists (or at least it would have a different focus). With IU, Woody doesn't have 15 more years left in him and there is currently not a Gard to take of the reigns to maintain any stability that he establishes.
  9. Never want to put an L on a single player but Mgbako's D really killed us. I lost count of the open 3s he gave up that they made. Effort was good overall. I liked the lineups and subs. Reneau's 4th foul was a horse 💩 call.
  10. He and McNeely play the same position, correct? We offered him 2 years before McNeely committed. Is McNeely a sure fire 1 and done? Who knows all that is going on here on either side but sure, let's find any excuse to throw $#@& on Woodson based on tea leave interpretation of an interview.
  11. All fan bases have some percentage of "overreactors". My brother is a huge Purdue fan and he (plus so many others) were calling for Painter's head after they lost to Virginia in the tournament several years back. I live in NC and there were a significant number of UNC fans wanting Roy Williams "forced to retire" after they lost in the final 4 to Kansas in '08. Factions of every fan base have different "bars" they are measuring their team/program against. When that bar isn't met, they grumble and complain. My bar right now for IU is be competitive in the BigTen and make the tournament regularly. Until we achieve that, anything above it is a pipe-dream based on the past. Others may have the bar for IU set higher and that's their prerogative. I don't feel that makes either side more or less of a fan
  12. When I first heard about it I imagined this mass of fans that she got caught up in. When I actually saw the video I just laughed.
  13. That's a Wisconsin-level flop right there.
  14. Other's have touched on it some but for me the biggest problem with IU basketball is the culture (or lack of it). Folks have made statement about UNC, Duke, etc. going through coaching changes and continuing on with success. Big difference is one, those schools didn't fire the previous coach and two, the successors were able to continue the existing culture. Yes UNC fired Matt Daugherty but he was still trying to maintain the established culture as did his replacement. Yes each coach puts their own stamp on a culture but at the core, these programs haven't shifted there. Establishing a culture (a strong, competitive, healthy one) takes time. I look at it this way: IU had an established strong, competitive, winning, culture built and maintained over decades.. Let's call this "culture A" RMK is fired Mike Davis takes over and tries to maintain culture A but was not a good enough coach to succeed and is fired Sampson is hired and intentionally (according to many accounts) blows up the culture to establish a "new IU" let's call this "culture B" yadda yadda Sampson is fired.. at this point, culture A no longe exists in the program and culture B is completely flushed CTC is hired to rebuild IU but he wasn't part of culture A so he works to establish yet another culture..culture C. Given the most time in the job since RMK, I would say he was able to establish a strong, healthy culture but other factors ultimately lead to his firing. Enter CAM and culture D, the job is too big for him and he is fired. Woodson is hired... the program is now so far removed from "culture A" and the landscape has changed so much that he is trying to establish yet another culture (culture E) even though he was part of culture A. The biggest concern for me is that at this stage in his career and with the lack of the "next coach in waiting" on his staff, I don't see that he has time to establish that culture and we will be looking at yet another culture reset when his time ends. Do I think Woodson should be fired after this season? No. Do I think Fife was the answer to the coach in waiting? No (I think Dolson tried to force that and was a bad idea in hindsight). Would I like to see Woodson make changes to his staff? Yes Apologies for the long post
  15. I can't think of any of the great (top tier of all time) coaches in any sport that you would classify as "humble"
  16. I flipped over to see how the old Pack Line was doing... Dayton made 9 3s in the first half!! BTW Rhode Island only had 27points in the first half.
  17. Retiring or taking another role all require Woodson admitting he doesn't think he can do the job. That is what I don't see happening.
  18. I'm wouldn't say Woodson is owed getting another year and I'm not saying he should be fired but it would be extremely tricky to fire him after just 3 years. I think Dolson would have to have the backing from the power alums and some agreement from who he would bring in before pulling the trigger. I don't see either of those things happening. As @DC2345 said, Woodson deciding to retire is probably the only exit scenario and I would be shocked if he decided to do that.
  19. Not to diminish the coaching staff's responsibility for where things are but a huge part of this team's problem is the leadership within the players. IMO TJD, Race, and Kopp were all strong leaders and were constantly picking guys up or getting them focused in games. How many time did we witness Trayce getting on X for careless or bonehead plays? Who are the leaders on the team now? The expectation is that X is one of those if not the main one. Are we surprised with Gunn's elbow given who is "setting the tone" on the court? I so wanted X to have matured with his extended time off last year but that didn't happen.
  20. It just baffles me. So many former players were so against him but the product he put on the floor was exactly what they have been screaming for since he left.
  21. Sadly, I'd put my money on the Badgers
  22. In the pros, at least there is motivation to perform for their next contract. That doesn't really exist with the NIL. It's such a catch 22 now. The best players demand the money. The good hungry players will eventually transfer and get the money. Loyalty to a school/coach is rare. I would hate to try and navigate that as a college coach. Guess that's why I find myself way more invested in the NFL these days. College basketball and football are completely flawed and I don't see it getting fixed.
  23. IU was +11 with Gunn on the floor tonight
