  1. I think it's a combination of both timing and belief in the company. During the recession about 10 years ago, I know a couple of people that loaded up on Ford at $2. It was just one of those situations where it might not be much more, but you knew the company was worth more than that. One sold when it hit about $6, and one sold half when it hit $10, and as far as I know, still has some of it since it's a reliable enough dividend.
  2. +1 We're going to be moving into a new house next week, and then it'll be into the middle of winter. Which makes for a good transitional period. But I think we're all looking forward to having a dog again in 5-6 months.
  3. That's a decent life for a dog. Making that final decision was probably the hardest thing I've had to do in life so far, but in hindsight, I'm glad I made it. It was a final gift, letting her go in peace and dignity.
  4. Specific breeds all have their quirks, and yes, it's generally the mixed breeds that are tougher/healthier. We've had two Boston Terriers, and my sister in law had one. Their biggest weak point is their eyes. All three started developing cataracts about the age of 10. Cataract surgery for dogs is usually a standard procedure, but with Bostons and other breeds with "bug" eyes, because of the structure of their eyes, about 1/5 that go through that procedure develop glaucoma. That can result in quite a bit of discomfort and the only solution is removal of the eye at that point. Aside from that, they were fairly healthy dogs. One of ours died at 11 due to heart failure, but we knew she had an irregular heartbeat from birth. Never bothered her until the last two or three weeks of her life. The others lived to 13 and 16.
  5. You're both correct, at least as far as we know. The issue is the speed at which the virus can mutate. The further away from the strains the vaccine covers, the lower the positive impact. That's the grey area at the moment that at least in terms of public knowledge, nobody has a truly solid feel for yet.
  6. This is pretty much what I do. I've got about 5-10% in some more aggressive funds, but I do keep a fairly close eye on them. And I keep a little around basically for fun or those "Hey, check this out.." tips.
  7. I did the same thing two months ago, holding our dog as she was put down. Won't ever forget feeling her heart stop. Sorry for your lost, but at least she's in a place where the seizures won't bother her anymore.
  8. I've had two dogs go almost completely blind due to cataracts. They were Boston Terriers, which don't do well with the laser surgery. That obviously happens over time vs suddenly, but one thing I can say is it is amazing how they can adapt. One could navigate our entire backyard entirely by smell and feel. She'd get to within a step or two of the fence, but rarely run into it.
  9. We have/had the same. When our older dog died about 3 years ago (on my older son's birthday, no less) I found two almost perfectly rectangular pieces of flagstone in the vacant lot next to our old house. One of those was her grave marker, and one was stashed away in the corner of the garage for her sister. We sold that house in September, but her stone came with us. Our other dog passed about two months ago, so her stone will get put to use when our new house finishes up.
  10. This isn't a joke. We own two 10 footers, at least 6 different 6 foot trees and a handful of minis. Not every one of them gets put up each year (obviously). And yes, my wife has been to tree-hab for this addiction. Didn't help. And don't start on ornaments.....
  11. You don't beat Michigan, Penn State and Wisconsin in the same year by coincidence.
  12. They could write his contract on one piece of paper. "In the blank space below, tell us what you want. It's yours. "
  13. How many trees do you own for the inside?
  14. Wow....guess times have changed. When I was there (about 18 months after the last wooly mammoth went extinct....03-05) we were the 2nd smallest B10 school in terms of enrollments, and the smallest was Northwestern.
  15. I'd question largest, since IU is typically on the lower end of total enrollments. For a state school, IU has a very good geographic spread among it's alumni base though.
  16. Owned a countertop model for about a year now. Love it. But, we're in the process of building a new house, and when we found out the builder uses Frigidaire Gallery appliances, we upgraded to this: https://www.frigidaire.com/Kitchen-Appliances/Ranges/Electric-Range/FGEH3047VF/ Convection oven with a built in air fryer mode. Have our final walk through on Monday, so hopefully will be able to try it in a couple of weeks.
  17. I was hoping for "Jakartan Whorehouse" as the title, but this works too.
  18. A) Congratulations! B) Please tell me that's a cluster of stones on the ring. If it's not, my bar tabs, outstanding parking tickets and 5fouls' attorney bills are getting forwarded to you.
  19. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
  20. That they have. There's at least 2-3 very impressive examples a week on Reddit's /r/woodworking sub. I don't have a planer or a jointer so taking on something from slab level isn't really possible, but I love the whole resin filling idea.
  21. There's a live edge resin filled table in there somewhere.
