I've thought Leal deserved more play since last year, but  felt he wasn't getting it due to trying to give younger players with a higher ceiling a go for the longer-term future of the program.  I believed now and believe even more it was a mistake. He has decent size, maturity/leadership, solid defense, and has a stroke.  Only issue has been it is difficult it get in rhythm in 2 minute spurts every ten games.  Woodson values versatility, not role players/specialists and it is a mistake.

I might be wrong, but I am pretty sure he's dealt with a lot of injuries. One was more serious than has been discussed since people just assumed he wasn't playing because he wasn't good enough.

In case anyone cares, I broke down some numbers because someone on a different site said we're a terrible 2nd half team, and it's actually the other way around:

2nd half scores

Florida GC 37 IU 41
ARMY 33 IU 40
Wright St. 31 IU 35
UCONN 40 IU 27
Louisville. 37 IU 40
Harvard 36 IU 50
MD 25 IU 25
MIch. 36 IU 41
Auburn 52 IU 42
KU 43 IU 31
Morehead 32 IU 44
N.Alabama 32 IU 40
Kennesaw 41 IU 50
Nebraska 45 IU 37
OSU 27 IU 34
Rutgers 36 IU 30
Minn. 31 IU 33
PU 36 IU 37
Wisky 52 IU 53
ILL 32 IU 28
Iowa 40 IU 35

2nd half Them 774       IU 793
1st half Them  775        IU 752
Total     Them 1549       IU 1545

I could be off, but I double checked this a couple of times (only the second half scores) then just subtracted those points from the total scored/given up.

It's because IU has been outscored in the second half in 6 of the 8 losses.

My guess is most teams loses are no different. Regardless, I think this team's bigger issue is the first half, not the second. Specifically the last 10 minutes of the first half; leads tend to shrink and deficits seem to grow. They seem to start decent enough then fade not a coincidently, when the bench gets more minutes (Woody does the NBA shift). This has been very obvious watching and statistically.

Anthony Leal is on the HH podcast as of this morning. Interview starts at 27:40

That was awesome... I loved his message to the fan base...

"Love you guys, appreciate the support, but sometimes you need to shut up."

Don't mind that quote one bit.

Me either...

I wonder how they feel if/when they read a forum like this after a loss?

Do they laugh? Get pissed?

But that quote tells me they do hear it... Probably moreso on social media than places like this...

I highly doubt they read these forums.  Probably more social media driven.  Like how Kopp was on twitter alot.

You'd be surprised. I know the parents do....been countless of examples of parents going rogue on message boards.

Honestly unless I was the most head strong person in the world or better yet the leader of a top 5 team I'd probably have to cut ties with social media in an up and down season. Problem is social media is where they make the loot.

If the players come to a place like this, that's on them. This doesn't go out into the world, you have to want to read this to ever come across it and you know, or should know, that critical comments will be posted. Something like Twitter is different. Complaining about a player there goes out into the world for people, including the players themselves, to encounter even if they don't want to. There is no reason for a player to be here unless they want to know how I feel about them shooting long 2's. There are plenty of reasons for a kid to be on actual social media platforms that have nothing to do with my take on his game, so he should be able to go to those places without ever knowing my thoughts on his play.

I thought for a while there that Leal's mom posted here.

That sounds great, but i would think some NIL deals are, at least in part tied to presence of social media. I know I see posts all of the time with some player advertising something.

I did qualify my statement saying probably more social media driven, but people are curious, and I don't think it'd take too much to formulate a search that would find this place...

That's how I found it... Googled Indiana basketball forum 5 years ago...

She did, and was always very sweet. We had a running joke about her amazing meatloaf. I believe she corrected us and said her meatloaf is only average,  but her lasagna was off the charts. Happy for her and Anthony's family after his performance the other night.

There's also no reason any adult/human should complain about someone else playing a sport the way many do.

But yes, I agree, there is no reason for a player to be on this forum.

I didn't mean my post as an attack on yours. More of an agreement, really.
