So is everyone just giving Woody and the coaches a pass on this?  If this happened under CTC or Samscum's watch y'all would have been roasting them for not having control of their players and the quality of young men they were recruiting.  This ain't the first incident on Woody's watch either.

And  l'm not as sure as some of y'all to believe alcohol or Mary Jane wasn't involved.  Maybe the cops cut him a break on that since they knew who he was. Like really... who is sober at Taco Bell at 3 am on a Sunday morning?   I'm braced for the answer to be... this was just a late night snack after a Cook Hall workout or that he was driving for Uber Eats.

Go Hoosiers!!!

I would have hoped everyone understood how stupid that was then and learned from it.

And as far as the 2nd paragraph goes... if he was under the influence at all.. 1. the cops didn't do their job 2. he wouldn't have been released 2 hours after booking.

Loitering in that parking lot 🤣🤣🤣

At 3am, of a closed business, less than 100 yards from an address that you were just trespassed from.

Context. Use it. Go home in that situation. It ain’t hard. The mental gymnastics being used to excuse this behavior is astounding.

I agree, context is wildly important.

Right which is why loitering could be perfectly applied. There’s zero reason for MM to be idling in his car at 3am in an empty parking lot of a closed business less than 100 yards from a business he was just removed from for trespassing.

Like I said, mental gymnastics.

Let's wait and see how Coach Woodson handles it before we cast stones his way.

As far as the comment about it not being the first incident, every coach at every single program in the country has to deal with these kind of things.

My perspective is that this is a more serious incident than both the Windy City Five and Racer X.  That said, if Coach doesnt hand out what I believe to be an appropriate punishment, I'll accept the fact he has more information than I do and move on.

All that said, I do think this should be a learning experience for the whole team and not just MM. Whatever comes from it, all players and coaches alike need to understand this type of behavior is not acceptable.  And that message needs to come from Coach Woodson.

I am going to make a general statement as I don’t want to get in the conversation going on and I think is relevant to general understanding of the issue.  That Jiffy treat is literally right next to the TB.  Odds are TB employees likely park in that lot as it’s adjacent and has a section people can park right next to the TB property.  I think it’s important to note, whether being told he was being arrested or not, that moving to that lot didn’t do anything to remove him from the situation IMO.

I don't think moving your car 100 feet after being escorted off the premises of a business that you just had an altercation with while waiting for the police to leave before going back over there is the de-escalation you think it is. Given that Jiffy Treat is closed at that hour that's also loitering.

I'm sure after so many times of telling someone to go home they had no other choice.

He was waiting on his father supposedly. From TOS.  I think it is valid that this is a kid who is away from home for the first time and was probably scared/not sure how to handle.  Also, HoosierHoopster is a lawyer, so there is some validity in what he saying/asking.

He didn't get bailed out until 5:45 or something like that... I'd have wanted to get out of there faster... I'd have called XJ...

🙂

Thanks for clarifying that. Back in my day the Jiffy Treat and Taco Bell weren’t close to each other.

If that’s true… Wow is all I’ve got right now.

Shame on the police, and shame on many of you.

Good points. We are discussing MM. I'd imagine the manager of the TB has talked to the employees there and the police chief has talked to their officers. There  may be  consequences for them but it is unlikely we will ever know about it. Maybe there are Taco Bell and police message boards where that side is being discussed? 😁 Here, on a bball board, the main focus will be on MM. Regardless of the Taco Bell employees and police response, MM could have, should have handled things better. We have the benefit of hindsight and more life experience whereas he is young and was the one actually dealing with the issue in real time.

Not a single person has said MM shouldn’t have handled things differently.

Do you want your kids to get arrested and have a window broken just because they could have handled something better?

Do you still think 6 games and all the other crappy things you said about MM now that it appears he was trying to call his parents when the cops busted his window? .:snack:

Hey, let's not get personal here.

I hear you, but I think when you have folks coming out of the woodwork for the first time in months to dump on our own player it's inevitable that they're going to hear about how crappy their positions were when more facts emerge.

Regardless of what he was trying to do, he still made poor decisions and acted horribly in this situation. And there’s no excuse for that

Not a single person has denied that.

That does not mean he should have had his window busted or been arrested. Right now, it sure looks like the cops escalated rather than deescalated the situation.

Cops should be held to a significantly higher standard than the teenagers involved.
