Lifting light weights will help...

I just signed up at the local gym. Need to get in shape (not muscular). I've put on 12 lbs in the past 2-3 months. Gotta get rid of that, and get some cardio workout in.

Start tomorrow.

@IUFLAHe's already lifting 12 pounds whenever he gets off the couch.  :coffee:

When you get older you learn how to work out differently. I will never deadlift 650lbs again but that doesn't mean can't still deadlift.

There is a lot of value in lifting light.

Huge fan of lighter weight and more reps as I get older. Strict form helps too.

Any cpap or mouth guard during sleep wearers?

I did an at home sleep study.  Came back mild obstructive.

I have hated the cpap so far and just talked to the Dr about the mouth guard that controls the tongue.

What's y'alls experience?

I think the industry wants cpap machines for everyone. I'd go for the least restrictive / intrusive option that works for you.

I "threw out my back" about 4am Saturday morning.  Spent 3 days living in an L shape position. Still recovering but dropping a duece is a chore.

I can notice people that have back issues now. Saw Thad Matta walking up and down the sideline during the Xavier/Butler game I think. He was definitely feeling it.

You should probably go see an orthopedic Dr, just to make sure you didn't blow a disc out. Sorry you're in pain. And I'm not talking IU BBall now either.

I did last year. I have 3 degenerative discs and no disc between my L5 and S1. Back surgery is an inevitability.  It was suggested I put it off as long as I can tolerate.  I'm good I'd say 75% of the time.

Ooof, sorry brother. Back pain is pretty rough. I don’t think people understand how much it impairs functioning, if they’ve never had it.

Sending good thoughts your way.

My sister said something about Protonix?? I'm going to see my Dr. on Thursday. Something has to change because it's becoming more common vs once a year....and the omeprazole just isn't working.

Quick update on this. For those who battle acid reflux and causes anxiety, etc....get on Protonix (pantoprazole). I've only been on for a week but night and day difference vs what was I taking in omeprazole.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, had a hell of a week health-wise. Tuesday night as I was falling asleep I had this weird lightning flash across my vision several times. The next morning on my way to the sub, I kept having these weird flashes in the outside corner of my right eye. They kind of got worse as the morning went on, until I consulted Dr. Google. Online it said, “get thee to an eye doctor stat if you have flashing in your eye.”

I was already at work, so I called the Eye Center about 11 blocks north and they said to come in immediately. Went in and they did a crazy amount of tests and took pictures of the back of my eye. There was so much blood in the back of my eye that they couldn’t get a clear picture, but they thought it could be a retinal tear or detachment. They told me to monitor and let them know if it worsened. And to come back the next day if it did.

Woke up the next morning to do alternate side parking and I had these really large undulating black snakes in my vision and a gauzy veil over half of my right eye. After taking care of parking, I called my boss (an internist) to tell her what was going on and she said to immediately go to our ER. So, hightailed it on the sub to Manhattan. Spent ALL day in the ER getting tests. They finally were able to take a picture of the back of my eye that showed a retinal tear.

Got it operated on this morning with chryo gas  to seal the tear and they are hoping I will regain my vision in that eye.

Went from thinking I was going to go blind, to now hoping things will go back to normal. When I was worrying about learning braille and considering books on tape, I kept thinking, “Thank the lord for Don Fisher.” 🤠

So my entire life I’ve had a seriously lazy eye. A couple of months ago I started noticing floaters in that eye. My primary said see an eye doctor! I didn’t, don’t have eye care insurance! Still have the floaters, but they haven’t gotten worse, and I have the advantage that if I go blind in that eye it may be better than what I’ve dealt with my entire life. Praying for you my friend!

Thank you, brother! My wife is taking good care of me. Pain is gone as of today and just chilling to see what what happens.

I’ve had floaters off and on for several years. Feel like those are pretty common. Have learned this week that flashes of light are the real danger sign for a retinal tear. If you get those, get to an ER. Untreated, I guess it can turn into a complete retainl detachment and permanent vision loss. Thank you for the kind words, my friend! But make sure you take care of your eyes too!

Yeah man, they were really perplexed by it. Usually related to things like diabetes and high blood pressure, but I don’t have those. Also could be trauma related and they say people who are more nearsighted (that’s me!) are more prone to tears.

Bottom line is if you see new or weird flashes in the corner of your eye, don’t ignore it! Things can go pear-shaped quickly.

Vision in that eye is still bad, but it’s now like looking through a mesh screen instead of looking through safety glass.

About three years ago I noticed that my vision in my left eye had degraded significantly. Made an appointment with my optometrists and found out that a capillary in my retina had ruptured. Was referred to a retina specialist and began a series of injections in the eye to reduce swelling. I learned the true meaning of "needle in the eye" and didn't like it much. Thankfully, the injections did their job, the retinal swelling went down, and my vision has returned to the previous level. I never had the flashes of light but that is the first question they ask at each appointment. I'm going to need cataract surgery at some point and I have scar tissue on my left retina that may need to removed eventually, unless, of course, I die first. Things are stable now and not more shots for almost two years. I feel for anyone having serious eye issues. Very frightening stuff.

Oh my god, the injection in the eye. Had that twice this week. It’s a bit more than “You’ll feel a sharp pinch” isn’t it? I apparently had ruptured capillaries b/c of the tear. There was so much blood in the back of my eye that they couldn’t get a clear picture of the tear for a couple of days.

Glad you had a full recovery - pretty crazy how much we take our vision for granted until it’s threatened.

Saw my brother this week due to a death in the family. He’s still working as engineering manager at 78 for Midlabs. They make eye surgery equipment. You may have been stabbed by one of his needles.
