He's comingĀ

We went last night to check him out. I doubt he's in Indy much longer so we wanted to see and hear him with our own eyes.

I don't even really have a comparison. Some say Strasburg but I think Skenes is in his own class....and he was making AAA batters look really, really bad. I mean AAA players are 1 injury or call up away from the show and Skenes made them look like right fielders in tee ball.

Same thing he did to the SEC last year. Absolutely unhittable. Struck out 209 in 122 innings. 20BB 3HBPĀ

12.2IP 27K in AAA right now (I'm not sure if that included last night or not)

He struck out 8 in his 3+ innings last night. I have no clue how long it's sustainable but if I'm the Pirates....he's being called up asap.

I'd still keep his inning/pitch count down, regardless of the level he's pitching, but I can't disagree with what you're saying.Ā

I'd probably try and make it a pretty big deal for Pitt, though, if I did call him up. I'd make sure it's a home game, maybe a Friday game when you know it's nice weather, after an off day, hype it up and all that? idk.Ā

I see we're making the move from Van Dykes back to Porn Star staches... :)Ā

One other thing I'll add. We left early but another couple stuck around with their son because he wanted to try and get his autograph. He just texted me this morning that the line was 100+ deep after the game and Skenes stuck around long after the game and signed every single one.

So I don't get the point of autographs any more...

Wasn't it always to "prove" you met someone? With every person on the planet having a camera in their pocket, wouldn't a pic accomplish the same thing, only better? Plus, no writer's cramp :)Ā

My buddies kid is a rare 8 year old. He loves autographs vs photos. Has quite the collection going so far.

Well, at least he knows it was signed by Skeens himself...

Yankees lore says that clubhouse man Pete Previte used to sign dozens of balls for Micky Mantle :)Ā

Skenes or people like him have to be pretty guarded on signatures. I know the PGA guys if adults are asking for autographs they'll pass because the stuff ends up on Ebay or other sites.

An autographed baseball can be something of value or to display.Ā  A selfie can be framed and diplayed, but has little value beyond the person in the photo.Ā Ā

Even one that says "Mickey Mantle" but was signed by Pete Previte? :DĀ

I'd really kinda forgot that aspect...Yeah, they do have value...But I'd never sell them...

Autographs can be on a variety of items, such as balls, pucks, helmets, sticks/bats, magazine covers, trading cards, photos, etc.Ā

Plus, an autograph is something I can keep and display without having to look at my ugly mug in it. šŸ˜‚

Iā€™ve still got the autographs I accumulated as a kid/teenager. Among the more notable: Cal Ripken, Wayne Gretzky, Jeff Gordon, Tiger Woods.
Ā

The crown jewel is actually from my dad: a baseball signed by the majority of the 1959 White Sox, including HOF 2B Nellie Fox on the sweet spot. Fox died in 1975 at the age of 47, so his is a somewhat rare signature to find. The other 3 HOFers also signed the ball (Luis Aparicio, Al Lopez, Early Wynn).Ā
Ā

Iā€™ve turned down a 5 figure offer for that ball, as is, with no authentication. What it represents is priceless.Ā
