Mike Woodson has never seen anything like him. I just don’t know how you prepare for a guy like that. But Mike Woodson is here to win championships, I tell ya that. I just gotta get ‘em over the hump Don. Just gotta get ‘em over the hump.” Woodson, his staff and our athletic department are the hump. One big a?? hump in my opinion.

The guy is one of the best PG’s in the country and clearly made a huge jump from last year (one in which he was freshman All-B1G).

If we had this exact same record but managed to play closer games I’d be willing to give more leeway to this team. But this is just unacceptable. As to this game, it felt like a carbon copy of the home game vs Purdue. We tried to pound it inside like we normally do, almost like we didn’t realize they have a 7’4 dude down low. It’s frustrating because Ware feels like the perfect center to take advantage of Edey’s weaknesses. On offense it would’ve been nice to see some pick and pops with Ware (who is now shooting 45% from 3 on the year) to make Edey close out on shooters, which he’s clearly not comfortable doing. It also takes the best rebounder in the country away from the rim. Also, just like last game Woodson went with the 2 fouls auto-bench in the first half for Ware. We went from down 4 to down 12 by half, and Ware ended up finishing the game with 2 fouls. Not sure how many times this needs to happen for Woodson to realize that he’s letting games slip away by artificially fouling out his own players. And Woodson’s so hell bent on playing his system that when Ware is taken out he will play Sparks (arguably our worst scholarship player) with Reneau. This is a concern because it indicates that Woodson may not be willing to adjust from this system. Sparks shouldn’t be seeing the floor , let alone doubling up bigs and playing with Reneau. It’s insanity. Edited February 11 by Hoosier987
John S
Trey seems to understand basketball flow better than cmw. Trey said after the game that you cannot dig yourself a big hole and expect to come back and win against a team as good as PU. Woody allowed his team to dig a huge hole, and kept Ware on the bench ( in first half ). Lord knows that Ware should have been coached how to play smart against Edey. In the end, Ware committed just 2 fouls all night. Cmw continues to talk about teaching these kids, but their flaws are exaggerated by the Coach’s inflexible game management. For example, you can counter Edey by going small and quick, rather than putting Sparks on him. Sparks was totally outmanned, imo.

The offense has been best this year when either Ware or Malik are in but not both. That is just magnified to another level when Sparks is paired with Malik, because he has none of Ware's skills.
