  1. Do you really think that the schools care where the money comes from?
  2. No… maybe that for football. Basketball will be relegated. We may make it to the top 48 of the football powers due to our alumni numbers, but our basketball program won’t play into that decision
  3. Let’s have a football playoff with Arizona, Duke, Kansas, and IU. Do you think that the powers that be would buy into that?
  4. So there’s the rub. For schools that don’t have football—Big East for example, basketball is their saving Grace. Do we want to be lumped in with the Georgetown, St. John’s and Villanovas of the landscape?
  5. I am on my phone and it won’t paste. Basketball = 8 million per school . Football = almost 32 million per school
  6. Football brings in 4x what basketball does.
  7. As much as I love college basketball in general, and the tournament in particular, I think we are fooling ourselves to think that basketball has any leverage in the restructuring narrative. The amount of dollars basketball brings is minuscule as compared to what football does, and is projected to bring each school. Not even close. I was listening to the B1G network on Sirius yesterday and they were talking about the potential of two separate entities, one governing football and the other basketball. As the needs of each sport are different and the makeup of their members also somewhat different, it might make sense to do this.
  8. We went to N Carolina last Fall. Went to a winery that was built around some ruins, so to speak. Was told that the fireplaces/chimneys of the houses were left intact so the spirits of whoever lived there had a place to reside. That’s why you see standing chimneys where the rest of the property is gone. Without the chimneys, the spirits would have nowhere else to go, so the folklore says
  9. Appears that the Bears are shutting down the dome idea. Sorry, can’t copy and paste from my phone
  10. Will not fan any political flames. Will point out that 2 years ago Americans weren’t feeling the pressure at the pump that they are today
  11. Hibiscus 🌺 have thrived with all the rain we’ve had
  12. RIP Mr. Caan He was also awesome in Misery

  14. Just learned that a gentleman that worked for my firm was one of the 7 victims. He was 88 years old and still taking care of his clients. Very sad
  15. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/chicago-mayor-recommends-potential-soldier-field-dome-renovations-to-keep-bears-downtown-per-reports/ I think the stadium should stay downtown
  16. Not sure where to put this one, but since there has been some 4th of July idiocy discussion.... The DNR came out last week and said that they were upping their patrols of the lakes, looking for BUIs. We are a small, no-wake lake, so naturally there would be little to no oversight on our lake. Needless to say, at about 4:00 yesterday afternoon--plenty of day gone for someone to have gotten drunk, some guy and his wife comes out on our lake, going way too fast, and with a small dog standing at the prow. We yelled at them to slow down, which I am sure they didn't hear, but the wife must have said something, as the guy suddenly stopped the boat...sending the dog flying through the air and into the water. Fortunately, the guy had the presence of mind to cut the engine, and from the looks of things, the dog escaped unscathed. They gathered the poor pooch up, and hightailed it back to there cottage, where the boat was parked extremely crooked on its lift. Didn't see anything more of them for the rest of the night. As momma use to say, "Stupid is as stupid does."
  17. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/big-12-in-deep-discussions-to-add-up-to-six-pac-12-teams-after-usc-ucla-defections-to-big-ten/ Some of the PAC 12 teams discussed in this thread may not be no'brainer candidates to join the B1G. As far as ND goes. First, I have several friends who are alumni, and they all are spouting the "we don't need to join a conference" arrogant mantra. Secondly, if they were to consider becoming a full-fledged conference member, I would bet money that they will make all kinds of demands because, "We are ND"....🤑
  18. https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/football-drove-usc-and-ucla-to-the-big-ten-but-could-eventually-mean-big-changes-in-college-basketball-too/ Money rules?
  19. The bowl game we played without the most important position player as Penix was hurt. Last year was built on him being healthy and where he was pre-injury. He clearly was not. If there is any blame in CTA it’s that he had too much faith that his quarterback, the guy he built his team around, was 100% back. I hated last year just like everyone else. However I realize that for a program like ours, depth is never going to be like what an Ohio State or Michigan has, and when option 1 goes down, the drop off is going to have an impact.
  20. Cal-Stanford, Washington-Washington State, Oregon-Oregon State are every bit the rivalries in their respective states as IU-PUke is here. I don’t know if any of those schools would give up being aligned without their natural rivals.
  21. So then, will the same concessions be made so that Eastern time zone teams aren’t playing at godforsaken hours when on the West Coast?
  22. No way do I want Notice Dames in the conference. Their alumni attitude is that they are better than any conference. I don't want them having any easy way into the playoffs. Let them see if NBC will pony up the money the B1G schools stand to make.
